Collaborating as a sister duo born in Indonesia and raised in America, we toyed with this project idea as a way to spend time with our grandmother when she came to visit us in the U.S. We were fortunate to have this project partially funded by the Critical Language Scholarship program.
This project was an opportunity to connect with the Indonesian community, especially those part of the diaspora. We conducted interviews and collaborated with other Indonesian-focused individuals and organizations. The Ayo Makan! Offline cookzine features five Indonesian dessert and snack recipes written in both English and Bahasa Indonesia. Included is information on different traditional food topics. We have distributed the cookzine to public institutions and individuals as a free, permanent learning resource.
In collaboration with Noel Puello's creative endeavors, I designed Noel’s official logo and created the textile illustrations for a collection. Additionally, I served as the photographer for her 2019 and 2021 launches.
This installation was first exhibited at Massachusetts College of Art and Design’s All School Show.
"Scar ID" is an interactive installation that explores immigrant entry to the U.S. during the tuberculosis era. Both the smallpox and BCG vaccines left permanent scars on the upper arm, but only the BCG vaccine was administered and required for immigrants entering the U.S. This scar became a symbol of foreignness for first-generation Americans, while also fostering solidarity among immigrants.
This piece has two components - a scanner to trigger video play and a screen projection that displays the video.
